Glycoscience, the science of carbohydrates and glycoconjugates, is becoming increasingly relevant for our understanding of many complex systemic and infectious diseases and holds great potential for the development of novel approaches towards their treatment. Biomedical Glycoscience is particularly relevant for the design of vaccines against bacterial, viral or parasitic pathogens, for optimizing the efficacy of recombinant antibody and protein therapies, in the development of novel matrices for cell therapy and tissue engineering or for the development of immune therapies for cancer treatment. Research and Development in glycoscience requires a strong understanding of both the biology and chemistry of glycans, glycoconjugates and polysaccharides a specialized skillset that is rarely covered in the curricula of today’s universities.
This workshop organized by the Spanish Network of Excellence in Chemical Glycobiology-Glycobiochem will provide scholarly seminars from leading experts on glycosylation and cancer, immune therapy, glycoconjugate vaccine design and antimicrobial resistance and technologies important for analyzing glycan structure and carbohydrate-protein interactions.
At the same time the 2,5 day workshop will provide a forum for participants to present their own research via poster and oral presentations and foster new collaborations with international colleagues.
After a day of scientific talks and discussions attendees can relax during an organized standup paddle activity or plunge into the old town quarter for a taste of the world famous pintxos of San Sebastian.
Major areas covered in the workshop:
–Role of Glycans in Oncology and Immunology
-Analytical tools for characterizing Glycans and Glycoconjugates
-Design and Synthesis of Glycans and Multivalent systems
-Analytical and computational tools for studying protein-carbohydrate Interactions
